Finally finished the game to 100%. Wanted to do it to get the maximum, so my review would be as objective as it could get. First of all I understant that this game used to be a flash one, with like 2 developers, so I won't be to strick. I would also avoid blindly praising it just for nostalgia. This is a finished game, which players pay money for, so It needs to be review as one. Starting with good things. Desings of everything, from wariors to enemies are gorgeous. Animetions are smooth, hard to believe that devs didn't change anything from 2012. Even different elements of the same enemy look unique and fitting. Music is good. It's simple and fits repetitive gameplay really well. Progression of gameplay is nice, still I would talk about it a bit later. Now towards problems of the game and my suggestions on how to fix them. First of all is how long it takes to finish and 100% game. The "plot" is finished after about 8 hours, which is understandable for flash game, but a full steam game it's not. Gameplay is repetitive and after unlocking all base weapons it's not getting much better from here. To beat game with 100% of achivments I spent 6 more hours, and I used strat to craft only bronze weapon to skip fights faster so I can craft more and get those 9 gold stars, so it definetely would take more to do it intended way. If it were for me, I would delete one of the unlocks on each location, what I would do with them I'd write later Second problem are weapons. One might think, that a push from a shield would do less dmg, then a hit from a mace, or that the same shield would last much longer against enemy attacks, then small bow, and would be wrong. Type of weapons doesn't affect anything in the fight and that feels wrong. Give each weapong something unique like: bowman doesn't need to come closer to enemy to attack (really why do they need it?), mace can bush enemies, axe can crit etc. For shield you can make it take most of the hits, I would explain myself. Third problem are same to second one - repetitive enemies. Enemy's stats are only affected by it's position in queue, but what's even worse is that each enemy has 2 attack animations, yet they both the same. Why not make 1 attack do AOE dmg, and second one deal single target? Most of animations are already look like they would dmg only 1 warior, so it shouldn't be to hard to code. And, coming back to 2nd problem's solution, make shield be prioritised by those single target attacks. Now we have a bit more unique wariors AND enemies. Fourth problem is progression. Unlocking new weapons and elemental enemies are good, no problems with it. Problems are starting, whem new type of already unlocked weapon are getting added. Especially third ones. By the time you unlock them (coming back to "gameplay is to long" problem) you would already have 2-3 stats on first and second variations. Add the fact, that first stat on third types are usually the same, as ones on previous, and you are ended up in situations, where you don't need third type at all. I finished the whole game without using 3rd mace, and bearly used 3rd spear and shild, mostly for legendary weapons. The problem is getting complicated by fact, that there are 8 elements, besides luck, heath and regular dmg, while there are 12 stats for weapons, so some of them will be repiated anyway. How do we fix It? Well, as I said get one unlock from each location - this will shorten the game and leave you with only 2 types of weapons per save. You will mostly use only those two anyway, so no big problem. Next, instead of making gameplay looped after defeating the boss - finish the game and add "New game+" button. In New game + there will be third types for each weapons, new crafts for legendary weapons and last cannon ball. (speaking of which, it really needs a buff. The maximum impact that I could get from it was avoiding 2! attacks from 2 enemies... From 10. So yeah, it should at least stun for longer). About stats, we can allow player to chose aditional elemental stats for 3rd type of weapons, so everybody would have what they want. Adding NG+ will also help people, who want to finish the game, but don't want to spend so much time on repetitive gameplay. And those, who want to 100% it wouldn't need to just play same levels, as they would keep unlocking new stuff. Hack, you can even add aditional plot to it, sth like: "Princesse's sister was kidnapped to, save her." And she would actually be pretty, so you would get a nice good ending. Next problem is powerspike of reasorces. Once you unlock iron bronze is useless, once you unlock steel you won't need iron. Only gold stays relevant, as there are not as many crystals. That won't be a problem, If you did't get tons of those reasorces from enemies. Yes you can use them for some legendary weapons, but thats literally the only way to use them. It would be good if there were a way to trade/transmutade unneeded res into another. We could put some sort of trader in NG+, so he/she would help us in lategame. (Also make regular trader sell more then 1 of each goods, like, why can't I buy 2 poles??!) And the last thing I want to talk about is weapons exp. Farming 9 golden stars is a pain. Can you at least make it, so weapons from more expemsive reasorces (or less expensive, to make them relevant) or legendary weapons would give more exp? It would be highly apriciated. Overall, this is a good game. Once again I understand, that there are only two devs. Would I recommend this to someone who played flash version? - Yes Would I recommend this to someone who never heard about it? - Absolutly Would I recommend someone to 100% it? - Probably no This game is an important part of the childhood for many people, it really good, but personally I think it has potential to be even better. If devs add posibility to mode the game - creating your own enemies and weapons, It would be fantastic. But even if it would be at least one of the changes, that's solving one of the problems above, It would be good.
